Kia ora, my name is Kristy, and for as long as I can remember, sharing knowledge and seeing others gain understanding has been a key driver in my life. As a PhD scientist, I am a lifelong learner who is passionate about teaching and discovery. Whether that is in a laboratory, on the riverbank or in a garden, making science enjoyable while informative is extremely important to me.
The core of my teaching philosophy is to celebrate discovery. Specifically, that there is also value in getting the ‘wrong’ answer. Too often in life, we miss the bigger lessons that we can learn from our ‘mistakes’ by dismissing and/or shaming them. In science, it is important to understand that the ‘wrong’ answers are still informative and can sometimes lead to new discoveries that challenge us to change our mind. Most importantly, when science is approached without ego, it is an exciting learning environment that embraces diversity as well as change. Ngā mihi, Kristy
